Riddle

What do you call four Yahoo's running next to each other?

The Clift Hotel Gym!

= )

Just got back from SF - did train both Monday and Tuesday at the Clift hotel. In Boston now, wish I brought my suit. I guess I'll just have to sit this one out....

Jeanne's new baby

Guys! I bought my first bike ever today. I mean, my uncle bought me one a long time ago when I was a kid, that still had training wheels on it. This is my first big girl bike, and I think she's a beauty. The Jamis Ventura Sport is an entry level road bike.

For those in the know, it's all Shimano parts, 48cm mens, all aluminum frame. Honestly, I don't know what this means other than "it is good enough for going 26 miles."

For those not in the know, did you know that road bikes and nice hybrid bikes DO NOT HAVE KICKSTANDS? And I have to get PADDED SHORTS so that I don't get serious "bicycle butt?" This is a demanding hobby.

I debated for a while to get this one ($600) vs. the mid-level Cannondale Six ($1,100), but got this one because who knows if I'll actually like biking. I haven't done more than 7 miles on a real bike yet. So, why do I deserve a $1K bike?

However, I already know that I like accessories, so I used the money that I saved to buy myself a handbag today. Ba-da-bing!

Who is up for biking?!

The West Side

Despite much laziness, I RAN YESTERDAY! This was a mental feat as much as a physical one.

Using this nifty website, I charted my path and found the total distance -- 3.8 miles.

The most fun part of this run is looking into people's houses while running down west st. Most people think the view across the river into Hoboken is nice.. Yeah, ok it is. But turning my head the other way, you can see into some of the most gorgeous apartments in New York.

For example, one of the biggest apartments with floor to ceiling windows, is located at 176 Perry St, which belongs to Hugh Jackman. The entire apartment is wonderfully lit and three stories high. While running, I can stare into this apartment, fantasizing about what it would be like to live and decorate it [hey hey, that's where the fantasy ends]. My heart rate goes up, I run faster, until I get to the next apartment I voyeuristic-ally view. It certainly makes for an interesting run!

Anjum, thank you for your love and support! I know you fantastize about... apartments... the way I do.

Another push

Please vote! Once a day. Or every time you think of it. We are right now in 27th place, and need to be in the top 10, and the only way we can make that happen is with the help of all of my friends.

A $22,500 donation.

Doug J., our team captain, was the one who rallied 45 yahoos to do this crazy thing. A few days ago, he sent an email to Carol Bartz, Yahoo's CEO as well as the CFO, CTO and a few other executives to share what it is that we are doing, and hopefully, get some support.

Yesterday, Carol donated $22,500 to the team.

She said, "You guys are AMAZING!!! Please let us know how it goes. I'm good for $500 per Yahoo, so count me in for $22,500. Can't wait to hear how it goes. All the best, Carol." The money has already by donated and is on our team page. I hope it's ok that I am quoting her, but the message is so wonderful and generous that I had to share.

Speechless.

A note about Carol: She is a lean mean CEO-ing machine, having raised our stock price significantly already. When Kara Swisher, WSJ writer on "All Things Digital," alluded to Carol that she was too old to run an internet company (at 61 years old and recently retired from running Autocad), Carol leaned in to Kara and in the lightest way said "Fuck you." What an amazing lady.

The Crazy Piano Guy

After my group swim session, this is what I saw at W4 station while waiting for the E train:

He was playing Debussy's Claire de Lune. He had to lug his piano to the station. He played his heart out. He had a lot of dollars in his bucket. If this guy can get a piano into a train station and play for hours on end, I can get to my training sessions. He is in many ways an inspiration.

Today's swim session, in fact, was outstanding! I remember how exhausted I was after my first swim and even posted about it. This time, only 6 weeks later, I did the warm up and was actually excited to do more - not exhausted. Of course, by the time I finish after 45 minutes, I am heaving. And it's not like we are non stop lapping; we pause and listen to the lesson. We focus only on one side, then the other. But overall, I can feel the improvement in my endurance... it's pretty exciting.

Maybe that's why I was so touched when I heard the crazy piano guy. I was already in a state of happy.

Tony, thank you for your generosity and support. I may not have told you in so many words but I hope you know, that you are also my inspiration in so many ways.

Week 6!

We are 16 weeks away from race day. I can't believe how far we have come as a team so far, and how I am actually doing this. I AM DOING THIS RACE!? The whole team aspect of it has really helped me maintain motivation.

A side effect so far: I think I have also lost some weight, maybe 5 lbs or so? I really should have kept track from the beginning but I don't own a scale and I don't ever plan to. If I look fabulous next time you see me, we can thank TNT.

Tonight is the swim!

THANK YOU, Conster the Monster, for supporting me, asking me how training is going, pushing me to blog, and for the corn gummies that has been my sustenance.

Speaking of causes...

As you all know, iMentor is one of my most passionate personal causes. Will you vote for iMentor a few times over the next few days so that they stay at the top of the Pepsi Refresh project, whose winners get $50K in funding?

http://www.refresheverything.com/imentor

One by one, we make change happen. I just need 5 friends to vote -- every day or whenever you can through April.

Thank you!
